TERROIRS DU LIBAN
Bitter orange syrup is a sweet and tangy syrup made from the juice of bitter oranges (Seville orange or bitter orange) and sugar. Bitter orange (Citrus aurantium) is a variety of orange that is more tart and bitter than sweet oranges. The flowers are used to make orange blossom water, and the orange juice is used to make this delicate syrup.
It is a common ingredient in various cuisines, including Mediterranean, Middle Eastern, and North African. These delicate, fruity aromas delicately flavor beverages, including cocktails (with or without alcohol), lemonades, and pastries (as a coulis or to sweeten and flavor a preparation). For a refreshing drink, dilute 1 unit of syrup in 6 units of cold water.
This product is produced by hand in winter, between December and February, in the south of the Bekaa Valley by the women's cooperative Nejmet El Sobeh (the morning star).
Bitter orange is known for its tonic and energizing effect and helps strengthen the immune system and aid digestion.
