Za'atar's tangy touch is all its own! Very popular in Levantine cuisine, sumac is a spice with fruity, slightly lemony notes. In addition to its delicious flavor, sumac is packed with medicinal benefits: with its analgesic, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, and antidiabetic properties recognized for over twenty centuries, it fully deserves the status of super condiment.
Our sumac berries ripen under the sun of Qawzah, in the south of the Land of Cedars, a land renowned for the quality of its shrubs. Once dried and ground into powder, they can be sprinkled over fried eggs, in a chicken marinade, or in a vinaigrette. Sumac is also the signature ingredient of Lebanese "fattoush," a raw vegetable salad emblematic of mezze. Alternatively, simply use it as a lemon substitute to make your taste buds sparkle!
Delicious on raw or cooked fish, with scallops or shellfish.
