After the conquests of 1189, three knights—Guiral, Alban, and Loup—who had fallen in love with Princess Bertrade, upon learning of her disappearance, chose to withdraw as hermits, each settling on a different mountain. Every year, they lit a fire in homage to the princess. This is how the summit came to be called Pic Saint Loup, a symbol of love and memory perpetuated through time.
